George MacRae has been Clerk to Fraserburgh Harbour Commissioners since July 1969, and as such, has overseen capital expenditure in 2002 valued at around £40 million in the redevelopment of the Port becoming one of the most modern fishing Ports in Britain. Fraserburgh has the largest dependency of any town in the UK on the Fishing Industry and the Firm act as Secretaries for the Scottish White Fish Producers Association Ltd (SWFPA), the largest Association of fishermen in the UK and one of the largest in Europe.
70% of the UK catching capacity is based in Scotland, with the bulk of that being in the geographical area of the SWFPA and 70% of training of all fishermen in the UK is carried out in Banff & Buchan College of Further Education, Fraserburgh. SWFPA is the largest single constituent member of the Scottish Fishermen's Federation which, through the Association membership of the Federation represent around 95% of all Scottish fishermen. SWFPA represents the trade / political interests of their membership locally in the North East of Scotland, nationally and internationally in a wide range of issues.
